BURRAS BLACK

Horsham Demons – 19 defeated Burras Black – 11

This week our little u’12’s girls had 4 very consistent quarters of netball. The players and spectators are all seeing improvements in play every week. There were some great goal scoring opportunities & lots of hard work in getting turnovers and moving the ball down the court. The girls are working out what their favourite positions are on court and having lots of fun trying on different bibs and working with their team mates. Best on court this week went to double trouble Ruby and Lily Wilson who played their hearts out in different positions nearly every quarter. The incentive award went to Clare Whyte for her consistent ability in shooting goals and her improvement in working the ball in the goal circle. These girls will definitely be ones to watch on the coming years.

BURRAS BLUE

The girls played a very fast paced game on Saturday against the Shooting Stars. Each week the girls are showing improvement and adapting to new positions. The end score Burra’s losing 4 to Shooting Stars 9.  Well done to Zoe and Leteshya who won the encouragement awards.

FOOTBALL NEWS

14 AND UNDER

A really solid effort from our under 14’s finished with the Burra Boys kicking 2 goals to 9 against Ararat. Best players included Bailey Young, Rhys Pidgeon and Lachlan Drum.  All the boys contributed and it showed a lot of character to outscore the talented Rats in the last quarter. We are looking forward to taking on Stawell next week.

17 AND UNDER

An under manned Burras line-up travelled down the highway to Alexandra Oval to take on the Ararat Rats. The boys started slowly but played some great patches of football in the 2nd quarter, which saw Aaron McQueen slot a goal from 50m! Although eventually outclassed by the strong Ararat team, the boys’ effort was fantastic and the improvement is noticeable through the first 4 rounds. We look forward to another great challenge against Stawell on Saturday at Murtoa.

Minyip Murtoa 16 defeated Ararat 6

Best players for MM: 1st – Jenna McCALLUM,

2nd – Finley GOODIN

Achievement Award – Caitlin FUNCKE

Game review:  Although the girls were on a very wet and slippery court the Minyip Murtoa team started strongly with good passages of play.  Great shooting from Bella Powell and Annie Robbins helped the team to a 10 goal lead at quarter time.  With the large lead it gave the team an opportunity for players to try different positions and all did extremely well.  Another excellent win.

Minyip Murtoa 7 defeated by Ararat 71

Best players for MM: 1st – Jessie DELAHUNTY

2nd –  Mackenzie GOODIN

Achievement Award – Breanna BELL

Game review: It was always going to be a very big task for the Minyip Murtoa team to play against a physically stronger and well-polished Ararat side.  Although the score line was tipping heavily, there were some excellent passages of play from the Minyip Murtoa side in all quarters.  With limited scoring opportunities Jessie Delahunty and Cleo Baker converted well with both girls shooting +80%.

Lots of positives to take from this match.

17 and under

Ararat 42 defeated Burras 28

The girls again put up a fight and a half but were beaten by a well-drilled side. Promising signs were seen throughout the game though with some brilliant passages of play from the centre and defence down to the attacking end. Captain Maddi led by example, well supported by the defensive and midcourt.

Awards: Maddi Morgan, Serena Hateley, Courtney Campbell

BB – 7 LOST TO HORSHAM DEMONS – 12

Girls have been improving in some areas of their game & there were some great passages of play, but unfortunately the passing, catching & footwork went awry for a little while & the girls lost their lead. They kept trying & held their heads high, but too many unforced errors took its toll on the score.

BURRAS BLUE – 10 & UNDER

The Burra Blue played  a very competitive game against Harrow Balmoral on Saturday. The girls playing in new position due to absent players and injuries. Again a fantastic team effort. Encouragement award went to Heidi Baker.

Strong shooting eventuated in the score tipping their way.  Impressive effort by all MM players.

Best players for MM: 1st – Georgia McINTYRE  2nd –  Selina BOYD

Achievement Award – Hannah WHYTE

Game review: A tough physical match for the MM team against a larger opponent in Horsham Saints.  Defence end worked solidly against a challenging Saints shooting line up with some great intercepts.  Unfortunately these were turned back by a hard working Saints defence line also.

Excellent perseverance by the MM girls to play out the match strongly.  MM improving every week and will be a force for the next time the two teams meet.

17 AND UNDER

MM – 23 SAINTS – 44

Great hit out for our second game of the season! Either end of the court was on fire with Lori Young playing an absolute ripper in GS, and Madi Wilson in GK ensuring that Lori had plenty of scoring opportunities.
The on court leaders led by example with Maddi Morgan being a steady and directing influence in the attack end and Bridget Drum dominating in the defence.
We made Saints work for it for three quarters but they ultimately got the better of us.
