Year 9 & 10 Hepatitis Information Session

Our Year 9 and 10 students will be attending a Hepatitis Information Session this Wednesday 26th April 2017. The session will be run by Hepatitis Victoria, the state’s peak organisation for viral hepatitis, and StreetShot, a youth health education program.

Over half a million Australians are affected by viral hepatitis, with 50% of new hepatitis C infections and over 25% of new hepatitis B infections occurring in young people in Australia.

In the session, students will be able to :

  • Learn essential viral hepatitis facts including transmission, prevention, staying safe, stigma and discrimination.
  • Receive a program by highly qualified health educators that’s interactive, relevant and fun – and aligns with the

Victorian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education.

13 Reasons Why

I have overheard a number of students discussing the recently aired show on Netflix titled “13 Reasons Why” which focused on the suicide of a young woman. Both headspace and the Education Department have expressed concern about the graphic depiction of suicide in the series, which is inclusive of method and means. Research indicates a link between exposure to harmful suicide content and an increased risk of possible suicide incidents.
