Work Experience

Year 10 Work Experience (May 8-12)

Work experience gives students the opportunity to see what a vocation they are interested in is really like. Year 10 work experience saw students working in a variety of locations in Horsham and district. It was particularly pleasing to read the employers reports who were generally pleased with the quality and application of Murtoa students. Work experience is an opportunity to check out an occupation you may be interested in. This may result in you deciding that occupation is not for you. This is an important step forward. Pleasingly the majority of students who found themselves in this position concentrated on the work and got on with it. Sometimes the job you imagined when organising work experience doesn’t match up with your expectations. Pleasingly a number of students have organised some part time work from their work experience. There is also the possibility of an apprenticeship for one student. Congratulations to all of the year 10 students for their efforts.

Year 11 Work Experience (June 19-23)

I urge all Year 11 students to get organised for work experience June 19-23, 2017. Unfortunately there hasn’t been enough interest shown by students to run our usual trip to Melbourne. A number of students will still be working in Melbourne whilst staying with friends and relations. Thanks to all students who have completed their work experience arrangement forms. Mr Vague will be running some lunchtime sessions where year 11 students can complete their online safe@work tests. All students must complete these tests before going on work experience.

Year 11 Work experience 2016

Work ExperienceAll year 11 students completed a week of work experience last term. A small but committed group of students organised work experience in Melbourne during 2016. The group stayed at the Youth Hostel in North Melbourne and travelled by public transport to work each day.  Other students organised placements locally or in Horsham. We also had students working in other regional towns this year.

The Year 11 work experience trip is a chance for students to do something different, living and working in the city. It takes them out of their comfort zone and provides them with the challenges of living and working away from home. All of the students involved enjoy their time and learn some valuable skills they will use when going away to study or work. Continue reading “Year 11 Work experience 2016”
