VET Hospitality

VetThe VET Hospitality students held their Certificate II in Kitchen Operations Showcase Evening Dinner on Wednesday the 24th of August. The VET Hospitality students invited their families, friends and teachers to enjoy a set menu where the meals was selected, planned, prepared, cooked, practiced and served by the students.

The students and invited guests believed the evening meal was a huge success. The showcase highlighted the student’s individual skills and demonstrated to their guests and teachers an understanding of how far the students have come this year and how their skills have progressed in developing hospitality industry standards.

The planning for this evening began 3-4 weeks ago where a three course menu had to be chosen that would include ingredients that belong in the following categories; Appetisers, Salads, Fruit, Vegetables, Eggs and Farinaceous.

On the day of the event, the students began preparing all the dishes for the menu and it went very smoothly. Of course there were a few hiccups along the way, a component of one of the desserts didn’t work the first time around so later it had to be remade. The risotto dish took a lot more teamwork than the students thought to ensure the rice didn’t burn and stick.  Closer to the service time, the students were a little pushed for time, but this is where they all showcased their skills and worked together very well as a team; teamwork is what made this evening a huge success.

A huge thank you to all the guests who attended and to the students who made it work so well. All students should be very proud of their efforts and to Mrs O’Connor for providing the skills, knowledge and guidance to ensure the evening dinner be possible.
